Kristen recommends this Backpackers in Kampala, Uganda, which is near to where she has lived and worked as a teacher previously. John, the Australian owner, is mostly on site and runs an excellent, chilled out establishment, with lovely Ugandan staff.

Chumbe Island Coral Park was Tanzania’s first marine protected area. Coral growth and diversity along the shallow reef is amongst the highest in East Africa, and marine life is astonishing. Needless to say, snorkelling is superb (scuba diving is prohibited.)

For the 9th year running it's a growing success and sees visitors from all around the world come and move and shake to the tunes of the African continent. Don't give this one a miss if you're on Zanzibar between February 8-12. Imani is only a 15 minute drive away and we will happily organise transport to the festival for our guests
